Josh Grieveson

 A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME:

My name is Josh Grieveson. I am 17 and in Grade 11 at SACS. Born and bred in the Mother City, I am fortunate to have an incredibly close-knit family. I love spending time with my mom, dad, and sister (board games and spontaneous family adventures both being firm favourites). Having grown up in Hout Bay, the ocean has played a massive role in my life. As a lifeguard at Llandudno, I am able to spend lots of time at the beach and on the water which is simply awesome!

I am a passionate runner and surfer. I find that running and surfing are not only good for the body, but also for the soul. When I am running a trail or out on the water, I am able to take a break from the frenetic pace of life and just be. My sports have taken me to many places in South Africa and I have been able to see first-hand the stark contrast in the lives of the rich and the poor. It's almost as if they live in two completely different worlds, although more often than not the physical distance is actually much closer than that.

Growing up in Hout Bay instilled in me a wonderful sense of community. No man is an island - we are all interdependent. We are all bound by our common humanity to help our neighbours who are less fortunate than we are. I am so happy to be part of the 67 Kids To School team for 2020 because it's an amazing chance to make a positive difference in the lives of 67 amazing kids - all of whom will change our country and our world for the better.

To raise awareness and funds for 67 Kids To School, Nic Anema and I will be collectively running 67 KM on Mandela Day. The event - 67 KM for 67 Kids - will be streamed online and we hope to see you there!

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

― Sir Winston Churchill
